Risk Assessment and September Arrangements

Dear Parent/Carer,

The summer holidays are nearly at an end and we are really looking forward to welcoming the children back to school for the Autumn Term. We’ve been asked to publish our draft risk assessment for returning to school which can be found below. With any risk assessment, it is reviewed regularly to ensure it is fit for purpose and using the most up-to-date guidance available:

Return to school risk assessment

The school will be having two preparation days on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd of September. Following that, children from Years 1-6 will have one full day in school on EITHER Thursday 3rd September OR Friday 4th September. They will then start back full time on Monday 7th September.

Reception children will start part time on the 7th September and Nursery later in the month. Reception and Nursery teachers have already made contact with parents to provide details about this.

Start and end times are staggered for your children. We would ask parents to ensure that they maintain social distancing in the yard when dropping off and collecting the children and leave promptly. Please ensure your child arrives in school on time. We do not have staff available to supervise before school and lateness will be difficult to manage.

Further details about reopening, one way systems and start and end times can be found in the letters below:

Free School meal payments will be continuing pupils already in receipt of them. The last payment will be made on Monday 7th September 2020 (this covers up to Friday 11th September 2020). Children who are having payments into their bank account will have to continue to pay for school meals for the 7th-11th of September or you can provide a packed lunch if you prefer. They will revert to Free School Meals from Monday 14th September.

Please be aware that Breakfast Club will not initially be running when we go back to school except for pupils who are arriving early on the Tonmawr bus. However, we are working hard to get it back in operation safely. We aim to have it running as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns please give the office a ring and one of our clerks will be able to help you. Alternatively, you can email crynalltprimary@npt.school

Home Working Packs

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please find below the links to the home learning support packs for the next week. These will tie in with skills/activities completed in school if your child is returning.

Please make use of the Flipgrids that teachers are producing- these will support home learning. We are currently building up a bank of these that can be used throughout the school.

If you require any support, further work ideas or have any questions please contact the class teacher via dojo. Alternatively you can ring school and they will phone you back. Please note that, as they will be teaching during school hours, dojo messages may not be answered as quickly as before.

Many thanks for your continuing support,

Message from the Local Authority about Summer Childcare

Message from NPT Local Authority

Dear Parent / Carer

In response to the early lockdown period, Neath Port Talbot local authority provided hub childcare facilities for critical workers. This was an immediate response to the emergency childcare needs for those on the frontline of the national cause to minimise the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Schools were repurposed in line with Welsh Government’s guidance to provide these facilities.

Following consultation with other agencies including the NHS and as we progress our national recovery programme, the same level of need no longer exists and the lifting of restrictions allows for childcare to be delivered by more normal means. The repurposing of schools has been reversed and as a result, the local authority will not be providing summer childcare for critical workers. This decision is in accordance with other neighbouring local authorities, Welsh Government decisions and paves an opportunity for childcare providers in Neath Port Talbot to re-establish their businesses and ensure that childcare needs are met accordingly.

Families wishing to access childcare are welcome to contact the local authority’s Family Information Service (fis@npt.gov.uk ) who will provide a list of registered providers who would be able to meet their needs.

The local authority’s Children Services and Education Directorate are currently constructing a summer support programme for our most vulnerable learners, many of whom have found lockdown conditions particularly challenging and detrimental. This programme will seek to deliver bespoke support for those assessed to be our most isolated children and young people suffering from increased stresses and substantial psychological inequality. The programme will be configured around current resource, allowing services to deliver increased opportunities for safe social interaction and enhanced wellbeing and mental health interventions.

Again, we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to parents and carers for their understanding and cooperation during these challenging times.

Yours sincerely,

Aled Evans

Director of Education, Leisure and Lifelong Learning
